WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ECU REMAP AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
An ECU (Engine Control Unit) controls the operation of the modern Diesel engine by sending and receiving data in real-time from a multitude of sensors from around the vehicle. An ECU Remap is when the action of the Remap changes triggers, reactions, timing, pressures, air and fuel ratios and temperature values relative to engine performance in many different “Maps” which make up the “File” of which the vehicle operates on.
There are almost an infinite number combinations of values inside ECU map files. How these Maps are tuned is a matter of road safety, environmental conditions, engine efficiency, power, and torque and engine reliability.
To correctly Remap the ECU of a modern Diesel engine requires extensive knowledge and experience with Common Rail engines and their characteristics, advanced knowledge and operation of tuning software platforms and an in-depth knowledge of mathematics and test equipment, accompanied by a high attention to detail. Experience comes with only with the best diagnostic tools and the technician’s knowledge for fine diagnosis is a must for fine-tuning.
